“You should stretch, mister!” instructed the little girl, wagging her finger at me as I stood in pain with cramping quads. It was November 7, 2004, during the New York City Marathon, around Mile 18. I ultimately finished the run but it was not a pretty sight.
Fast forward to November 3, 2013. I ran the NYC Marathon again. This time I was smiling at the finish and was even a few minutes faster than nine years ago. “Older and better,” I thought, as I crossed the 26.2 mile marker of one of the greatest races in the world. (more…)
