The omens were good for a perfect ski getaway: the sky was brilliant, the highway free of traffic; arriving midday, early check-in was available and prime parking found easily. We hit the slopes by 1 pm. The lift attendants greeted everyone cheerfully; the cafe cashiers were courteous; the hosts in the village even helped people carry gear up and down the stairs. We were happy to be at Northstar at Tahoe.
Northstar offers beautiful long runs through the pine forests of what used to be a timber farm. Although it lacks dramatic open bowls like Squaw Valley or Alpine Meadows, Northstar is perfect for me with its many blue and smooth black diamond trails, especially the runs on Lookout Mountain. (more…)
