“Hot coffee!” “Have a hand hold!” “Last call for the Groover!” These announcements rang in our ears for eight days as we splashed and camped along 277 miles of the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon. It was a journey of astounding natural beauty. It was also a journey for ten urbanites to learn to let go.
The sacrifice: no cell phones or Internet; no detailed itinerary except to go downstream; no hot showers or comfy beds. The reward: awesome million-years old cliffs dwarfing us a mile below the Canyon rim; the River’s multiple moods from calm to friendly to raging; and the sky blazing by day and delirious with sparkles by night.
